Plano is known nationally as a City of Excellence – a vibrant, safe and sustainable city with attractive neighborhoods and urban centers, a vital economy, a high degree of mobility and an abundance of educational, recreational and cultural opportunities. Plano is committed to providing outstanding services and facilities through cooperative efforts that engage its residents and that contribute to the quality of life in the community.
The City of Plano joined the STAR Communities network as a Leadership Community in January 2014. As a member of the Leadership Program, the City worked towards certification with a cohort of other communities from across the country, earning a 4-STAR rating on May 5, 2015.
“The 4-STAR certification makes a powerful statement about Plano as a true City of Excellence,” said Mayor Harry LaRosiliere. “We pride ourselves on being a great place to live, work and play and this certification just confirms what we’ve known all along: Our environment is healthy, our economy is strong and people can thrive in Plano”
Plano is the second city in Texas and 32nd in the nation to receive recognition from STAR Communities for its participation in the STAR Community Rating System, which evaluates the livability and sustainability of U.S. communities.
Plano’s current City Council Goals cover the following areas: Financially strong city with service excellence; Safe large city; Strong local economy; Great neighborhoods – 1st choice to live; Exciting urban centers; Partnering for community benefit. Indicators developed by STAR Communities provide a metric for measuring the progress of city council goals and provide a consistent comparison with other communities across the country.
